Waiting For The Morning  - (in  a  graveyard at night)

CHORUS (off stage):
Waiting for the morning to come,
Waiting for the morning to come right back to me.

(Carrying a lighted torch, MARTIN is examining the tombstones looking for Amalisa's grave. As he reads the inscriptions he sings.)

MART I N:
Midnight's gone and time creeps running slow,
Remembering the times we shared not so long ago.
(He sits down and sings dejectly)
Sitting here and wondering what to do.
Knowing that though life goes by, I'm still missing you.
(He gets up and looking at the moon sings the bridge of the song)
I never knew that time stood still so early in the day,
Never knew that missing you could make me feel this way.

(The CHORUS returns to the chorus of the song, as Martin idly searches for the tombstone. At the end of the chorus he stumbles on an old tombstone, and having pulled back the grass, he sings the inscription.)

MART I N:
Asilama died
Threw away the key,
But not before he'd opened another world, for all to see.
Asilama look and see...
Amalisa is living free....

(Spoken to the audience.)

This must be it. But who is Asilama? They are all expecting me to carry on Amalisa's work, as though I know her secrets.
But who is Asilama, is that just another name for Amalisa?

(The song "Waiting for the Morning" continues as the off-stage chorus sing.)

CHORUS:
Waiting for the morning to come,
Waiting for the morning to come right back to me.

MARTIN:
Asilama's much too far away,
Tell me why I feel his name has so much more to say.
Can I meet him, will he come for me?
Or should I search within myself for eternity?

CHORUS:
Waiting for the morning, waiting for the morning,
Waiting for the morning to come right back to me.

MART I N :
(Spoken to the audience.)
I've never contemplated suicide before but it does seem attractive, and  a sure way to rejoin Amalisa. I have nothing left here on Earth to contribute.
( He ties a rope to a tree.)
I'm sure they'll understand. Perhaps they'll even make a funeral show for me.

(A girl runs onto the stage)

GIRL: Don't do it that way Martin. One of these will be enough for a trip. A hanging would be so untidy.

MARTIN: Thank you. I'll take five.

(He hands her money and she returns to the audience. MARTIN eats the pills and coloured lights flash.)
